So there is a little music project that has been sitting in the depths of the project list for years. Decades even. It was never intended to be anything other than getting lyrics put to music and having a bit of fun. But the lyrical content and musical genre of the musicians I have been talking to lead me to something more than just heavy metal. I would have initially tagged it as death metal, but it seems the direction is going toward black metal.
Black metal has enough visual imagery alone to kill an elephant, not to mention the style of music being a bit more accepting of a more raw and not touched by sound engineers or having countless filters dropped over the track to hide the fact the singer can’t sing and is woefully out of tune.
So, now whilst putting some simple track ideas together, I have to sort out what name the music sits under, and I am leaning towards using Old Norse to come up with some simple easy to remember name. Although it is tempting to go for something hardcore, I just don’t want anything hard to remember or actually say. It is more a project to just get stuff done, so the name doesn’t really matter, but you have to call it something because ‘random dudes writing metal music’ really isn’t that exciting if someone does end up finding the music in the future.
So, back to the burning crosses. I was just looking for something simple to use as a graphic in the background for a simple website I am putting together for the music (just so I can share the links for people to listen to the music easily). Really when you look at black metal, everything is black and white, apart from the flames, as they tend to have a lot of flame pyrotechnics going on in shows. Not to mention the link to church burnings by some of the more noted black metal musicians over the years.
Obviously I will share the shit out of the link to the website once I have some music finished.
